GRINNELL — Ella Mae Terlouw of Grinnell, formerly of the Newton area, passed away on Aug. 17, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. The Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling the arrangements.

Ella Mae was born July 12, 1936, the daughter of Harry Francis and Jaunita Joan (Evans) Gilbert, at the St. Frances Hospital in Grinnell. At the age of 6, her family moved to the Newton area, where she would graduate from the Newton Senior High, class of 1954.

On Nov. 12, 1966, Ella Mae was united in marriage with Robert “Bob” Terlouw in Newton. She was employed by the Helma Cole Style Shoppe in Newton for over 28 years and was a Mary Kay cosmetic counselor for 25 years. She devoted her life to her husband, family and friends.

She attended the First Assembly of God Church in Newton where she taught a girl’s Sunday school class for 20 years. She had lived in Newton, moving to the rural Kellogg area in 1966, and Grinnell in 1999. She enjoyed Swedish weaving, bible study groups, was an avid walker and was a caregiver to others.

Ella Mae was preceded in death by her parents.

Ella Mae is survived by her husband, Bob Terlouw of Grinnell; her brother, Johnny Paul (Linda) Gilbert of Rocky Mount, N.C.; her two sisters, Harriett (Lawrence) Bogaards of Oskaloosa and Olga Doris (John) Potter of Newton; her many nieces and nephews; her many Seeland Park family and friends; as well as numerous good old neighbors and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, at the Grinnell Christian Church in Grinnell. Burial will be in the Sully Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Grinnell Christian Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be left in Ella Mae’s name to Grinnell Christian Church or Iowa Chapter for Parkinson’s Disease Research and left at the church or Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton.
