KELLOGG — Daryle Wayne Parsons, 72, of Kellogg graduated from this life on Oct. 15, 2007, in the Monarch Wing at the Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling the arrangements.

Daryle was born Aug. 6, 1935, in Killduff. One of 13 children, he was the son of Carl B. and Gretchen Edith (Drake) Parsons. He was raised in Killduff and attended Killduff schools, graduating from Newton Senior High School, class of 1953. Daryle worked at Maytag for three years, then was an Airman 2nd Class in the U.S. Air Force, from November 1955 until November 1959. He was stationed stateside and then in Alaska for several years and also served with the Iowa National Guard for three years.

Daryle was united in marriage with Judith A. Callison, on April 29, 1961, in Kellogg, where they made their home for forty years, and raised their three children. He returned to Maytag as a forklift operator and general laborer at Plant #2. He retired on June 1, 1992, after 38 years.

He was a member of the Newton Foursquare Church, had attended the Killduff Methodist Church as a child, was a former member of the Kellogg Fire Department for 10 years and a member of the Boy Scouts of America for 20 years. He most recently was on the Kellogg Park Board, where he devoted many hours of volunteerism and, previously, many volunteer hours to the Kellogg Historical Museum complex. He enjoyed photography, bird watching and flowers, as well as playing on the computer.

A “Celebration of Life” service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton, with burial at Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg. A time of fellowship with the family will be from 1 p.m. until service time on Thursday. Following the committal services at the cemetery, a lunch for family and friends will be held at the Holmdahl Park Cabin in Kellogg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Carl Jr., Lowell and Dale; and two sisters, Darlene and Sheryl.

Those Daryle leaves behind include his wife of 46 years, Judith of Kellogg; his three sons, Robert Alan (Jolene) Parsons, Kevin Eugene Parsons of Colorado Springs, Colo.,and Jeffrey Alan Parsons of Kellogg; his five grandchildren, all of whom he adored, Andrew Parsons, Jennifer Parsons, Emma Grace Parsons and Megan and Hanna Townley; his two brothers, Hollis Parsons of Jefferson City, Mo., and Norman Wendall Parsons of Hopkinton; his five sisters, Doris Perryman and Joanne (Bob) Richards, all of Newton, Chris (Bob) Townsend of Kellogg, Judith Bishop of Baxter and Bonnie (Don) Bessman of Waterloo; many nieces and nephews; and his many good neighbors and special friends.

Memorials may be made to the Kellogg Cemetery Association or Kellogg Park Board.
