OSKALOOSA — Judy Parrish, 54, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2007, at her home after a long battle with cancer in Oskaloosa. She was born Sept. 15, 1953, in Mitchell, S.D., the daughter of Henry and Jeanette (Van Zee) Vander Heiden. She graduated from the Newton Senior High School with the class of 1972. On July 3, 1976, she was united in marriage to Timothy Parrish in New York. She had a diverse career path including: Pleasant Park Estates, New Sharon Care Center, and lastly, she worked at Maytag in Newton until illness forced retirement in 2004. She enjoyed cross stitch, painting and baking.

Her family includes her husband of 31 years, Timothy Parrish of Oskaloosa; two daughters, Kimberly Parrish of Mason City and Stephanie Parrish of Oskaloosa; one son, Daniel Parrish of Mason City; one grandson, Preston Parrish; her mother, Jeanette Vander Heiden of Newton; one sister, Darlene Evans of Rapid City, S.D.; two brothers, Henry (Cora) Vander Heiden of Newton and Dale (Debbie) Vander Heiden of St. Joseph, Mich.

Judy was preceded in death by her father; one brother-in-law, James Evans; and one nephew, Brian Evans.

A memorial service will be on Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, at 4 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with the Rev. Shannon Perry officiating. According to her wishes, her body has been cremated and burial of the cremated remains will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Salem, N.Y., on the Parrish family lot at a later date. Visitation with the family will be Friday from 3 p.m. until service time at 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to Mahaska Hospice or McCreery Cancer Center in Ottumwa.
