Rosemary Nichols, 72, of Newton, died Aug. 23, 2007, at the Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing in Newton.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Chaplain Merle Smith of the Skiff Medical Center in Newton officiating. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton.

Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where the family will greet friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Memorials in Rosemary’s name may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home.

The daughter of Charlie and Edith (Smith) Padgett, she was born July 1, 1935, in Newton where she was a lifelong resident. She was united in marriage to Brenton E. Nichols on Aug. 11, 1962, in Newton.

She worked as a housekeeper at the Heritage Manor Nursing Home and was a life member of Washer City Sam’s Good Sam Club. She enjoyed camping, dancing, her friends and family.

She is survived by one son, Joey Nichols of Monroe; four daughters, Connie Jo Nichols of Newton, Brenda Johnson of Altoona, Connie Sue Johnson (and John Ulrey) and Mary Ann (Gary) Etter, all of Newton; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert (Virginia) Padgett of Newton, William (Sharon) Padgett of Colfax and Bart Padgett of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Brenton Nichols in 1990; and one brother, Charlie Padgett.
