CEDAR FALLS — Kenneth E. Murphy, 78, of Cedar Falls and formerly of Dike and Newton, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

He was born Aug. 28, 1929, in Newton to Loren and Gladys (Kent) Murphy. Kenneth married Beverly Shaffer on Sept. 23, 1950, in Mingo. He was a graduate of Mingo High School and served with the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Kenneth worked at John Deere and Company in Waterloo for thirty years, retiring in 1985, as the manager of product performance worldwide. He was a member of the Dike American Legion Post 471 and the Dike Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Murphy of Cedar Falls; one son, Kent (Vicki) Murphy of Dike; two daughters, Pamela (Gary) Stumberg of Strawberry Point and Deb (Brent) Murphy-Scheumann of Olathe, Kan.; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Marvin (Angie) Murphy of Apache Junction, Ariz.; two sisters, Eva Kling of Baxter, and Reva Lowry of Des Moines; one brother-in-law, Charles Shaffer of Mingo; and many nieces and nephews.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at the United Church of Christ in Cedar Falls, where military honors will be conducted by Dike American Legion Post 471. Interment will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Green Castle Cemetery near Mingo.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, and one hour before service at the church. A memorial fund will be established at a later date.
