Floyd “Max” Moon, 75, of Newton died Friday, Aug. 31, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Corey Stout, pastor of the Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton, officiating. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials to the Jasper County Animal Rescue League may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Floyd and Velma (Morgan) Moon, he was born July 3, 1932, in Indianola. He graduated from Newton High School in 1950 and served his country in the U.S. Air Force for seven years, stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. He married Patricia Stewart in Sacramento, Calif., and retired from the factory at Maytag. For the past three years, Max had worked in the shop at Garden Gate Landscaping.

He was a member of the Newton Alumni Association and was a hard worker who enjoyed reading books and writing letters. He also liked to tinker and fix things.

Survivors include three sons, James (Beth) Moon and Tim (Julie) Moon, all of Newton, and David Moon of Polk City; one daughter, Sue (Larry) Swedlund of Newton; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his mother, Velma Anderson of Newton.

He was preceded by his father, Floyd Moon; step-father, Carl Anderson; and wife, Patricia Moon.
