SULLY — Funeral services for Donald Moes will be conducted by the Rev. Jim Olson, pastor of Cornerstone Bible Fellowship, at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon on Wednesday. The family will greet friends on Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be designated to Hospice of Jasper County.

Donald was born Sept. 12, 1928, in Sully, the son of Lammert and Cornelia Dieleman Moes. He attended Sully Schools and remained a lifelong resident of Sully. On March 4, 1950, Donald was united in marriage to Arlene J. Tuinstra. He owned and operated Sully Plumbing and Heating for 40 years, retiring in 1987. He sponsored the Sully Plumbing and Heating Softball Team for many years. He enjoyed his family, wintering in Arizona, watching baseball on TV, bowling, fishing and in his younger years was a fast pitch softball pitcher. He was inducted into the Iowa Softball Hall of Fame.

Donald died Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, in the Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jerry Moes in 1997; two brothers, Ralph Moes and Bill Moes; and five sisters, Jenny Moes, Elizabeth Vos, Gertrude Pleima, Cornelia Moes and Wilma Sparks.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Arlene J. Moes of Sully; one son, Bryce (Laura) Moes of Newton; one granddaughter, Kelsey Moes of Newton; one brother-in-law, Ed Sparks of Waukee; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Moes of Pleasant Hill and Irene Moes of Sully; and several nieces and nephews.
