Mary McConnell passed away Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007, at her residence at Park Centre in Newton, Iowa. She was 89 years young.

Mary Taggart McConnell was the only child born to Isaac Hazlett Taggart and Nancy Martha McKee in Clarinda, Iowa, on Jan. 7, 1918.

She graduated from Monmouth (Ill.) College with a degree with chemistry in 1939. She took training as a Medical Technician at Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles, Calif., and continued on their staff for two years.

She married Rev. Lowell M. McConnell in Clarinda, Iowa, on June 4, 1942. Mary and Lowell served Presbyterian churches in St. Clair Shores, Mich.; Newton, Iowa; Oshkosh, Wis., and the Robinsonville & Wequiock churches near Green Bay, Wis. They retired to Clarinda in 1979.

She is survived by her three children, Cheryl M. Neubert of Grinnell, Iowa; James L. McConnell (Chris) of Green Bay, Wis.; and William T. McConnell (Jody) of Oshkosh, Wis. She has six grandchildren, Amy Ketcham (Bill); Tim Neubert (Janet): Jason McConnell, Ian McConnell (Jill); Ashley McConnell and Kellen McConnell. She has five great grandchildren, Cole, Isaac and Ella Ketcham and Camden and Kiernan McConnell.Her husband, Lowell M. McConnell, preceded Mary in death Sept. 29, 1994.

She is also survived by her cousin and life-long best friend, Clarinda native W.E. (Ed) McKee.

Mary was a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church, the P.E.O. sisterhood, Alpha Xi Delta, and numerous church affiliated groups.
