Joye McCauley, 96, formerly of Monroe died Sept. 21, 2007, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Funeral services for Mrs. McCauley will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Monroe with burial following at Silent City Cemetery of Monroe. Visitation for Mrs. McCauley will be on Monday at Coburn Funeral Home of Monroe from 2 to 8 p.m. with the family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Joye McCauley Memorial Fund, American Heart Association, or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Those left to honor her memory are her children, Carolyn (Darrel) Terpstra of Altoona, Jane (Marvin) Sloan of Knoxville, and Chuck (Maxine) McCauley of Johnston; one brother, Gene (Jean) Scarbrough of Newton; 11 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Alvin Rempp.

Joye was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Floyd Scarbrough and Rex Scarbrough; and one sister, Nina Matthews.

The daughter of Ira and Maude (Thomason) Scarbrough, Joye was born on May 11, 1911 at Monroe. Joye was a graduate of the Class of 1928 from Monroe High School.

On April 18, 1931 Joye was united in marriage with Clare McCauley at Omaha, Nebraska. Joye worked as an accountant for the state of Iowa in the social services department. She also spent time as a secretary for the Monroe School District.

Joye enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge and canasta. She was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church.
