COLFAX — Don D. Jewell, 80, of Colfax died Sept. 30, 2007, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Burial, with full military rites, will be at the Colfax Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Howard Street Christian Church Building Fund or to a charity of your choice.

The son of George Jewell and Frances Hunter Shoquist, Don was born on March 3, 1927, in St. Paul, Minn. Don proudly served in the United States Marine Corps.

On July 19, 1958, he was united in marriage to Leona Williams at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Don worked at Maytag in Newton for twenty years, retiring in 1986.

He was a member of the Howard Street Christian Church, the V.F.W and American Legion in Newton, as well as the U.A.W. Local 997. Don loved the outdoors and could often be found hunting or fishing. He was also an avid lover of all music.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Leona of Colfax; a daughter, Jan Jewell of Colfax; and a sister, Sandi (Keith) Tygum of Pomona, Calif.

Preceding him in death were his parents and an infant daughter, Jill in 1968. *
