Dorothy B. Iiams, 89, of Newton, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home with Glen Oswalt officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Rising Sun Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials to Moose Haven, Jasper County Historical Museum and the VFW Auxiliary may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of John Miton and Maud (Hawkins) Johnson, she was born March 22, 1918, in Rising Sun. She graduated from East High School in Des Moines in 1936.

On July 7, 1949, she married Bert Pearl Iiams, in Brainard, Minn. Mrs. Iiams moved to Newton in 1949. She was an inspector in the factory at the Maytag Company for 30 years, before retiring in 1976.

Mrs. Iiams, an avid volunteer for many organizations in the community, was a member of the Women of the Moose, College of Regents and Academy of Friendship, Past Pocahontas since 1940, VFW 1655, 20 years at Knoxville VA Hospital with VFW Auxiliary, American Legion 111, United-Spanish War Veteran Auxiliary No. 5, Rebekah Lodge, Skiff Medical Center Volunteer, Jasper County Historical Museum, Jasper County Genealogy, RSVP, Jasper County Senior Citizens and UAW 997 Local Retirees Union.

Survivors include close friends, Charlie and Dorothy Irons of Rising Sun and Forrest and Maxine Good of North English; and nieces and nephews, Denny Hickey of Newton, Bette and Frank McGuire of Afton, Jerome and Donna Jordan of Cedar Falls, Kenneth and Sheryl Love of Waterloo, Russell Iiams of Cedar Rapids and Diana Dean of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bert; and a sister, Laura Mae (Johnson) Anderson.
