MITCHELLVILLE — Thomas J. Humes, 66, of Mitchellville, formerly of Newton died Monday Oct. 29, 2007, at the Taylor House in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Chaplain Pam Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton. Memorials in Tom’s name may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Wilvin Avery and Alice L. (Roberts) Humes, he was born April 13, 1941, in Newton. He was united in marriage to Judith A. Noel on June 26, 1959, in Newton.

A graduate of Newton Senior High School, Tom worked in the grocery business and was a grocery owner and manager. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newton.

Survivors include his wife, Judy of Mitchellville; two daughters, Alice (Erik) Murray of Cedar Rapids and Melissa (Matt) Goche of Norwalk; three grandchildren, Noah and Avery Murray and Cash Goche; and three sisters, Donnie Anderson of Arizona, Alice Ladd and Patty Peery, both of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Timothy; and three brothers-in-law, Don Anderson, Boyd Ladd and Carroll Peery.
