House, Oscar Evert 1924-2007

Funeral services for Oscar Evert House will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Sunday and visitation with family will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials may be designated in Oscar’s name.

Oscar Evert House was born March 1, 1924, in Birch Tree, Mo. He attended the Hunter Hill Country School in Birch Tree. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1946, he moved to Newton to work for family in the building trades. On May 29, 1948, Oscar was united in marriage to Pansy Ethel “Pat” Hasselman in Newton. He became a self-employed general housing contractor until he retired in 1986. After retiring he raised hogs and cattle. Oscar loved his family, watching wrestling on TV and bird watching. He was a lifetime member of the VFW.

Oscar died in the Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael, in infancy; three brothers, Burt, Clyde and Lee House; one sister, Clara McDaniels; and one brother-in-law, Leland Haile.

Those left to honor the memory of Oscar include his wife, Pansy “Pat” House of Newton; one son, Russell (Pam) House of Newton; two daughters, Mary (John) Poole of Oswego, Ill., and Sally Jane House of Newton; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Howard House of Seattle, Wash.; one sister, Beulah Haile of Springfield, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
