Funeral service for Leota Ola “Lee” Edgren, 96, of Newton will be at 11 a.m. today at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Memorials may be designated to Hospice of Jasper County or Leota’s Memorial Fund.

Lee Edgren, the daughter of John and Oda (Masterson) Stewart, was born April 17, 1911, in Monroe County. She attended the Lovilia Schools. Lee remained a longtime resident of Jasper County area, living in Newton.

Lee was united in marriage to Louis “Lou” Witney, who preceded her in death. She was employed as a waitress and candy maker, and was a devoted wife. She devoted her life to her family as a homemaker and helping on the farm. She was baptized in the Christian Church and later confirmed in the Episcopal Church. Lee was later united in marriage with Ernest Edgren, on Nov. 10, 1956.

Lee died the morning of Sept. 21, 2007, at the Nelson Manor Health Care in Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Lou; second husband, Ernest; stepfather, Will Davis; three brothers, Fay, Lewis and Lloyd Stewart; three sisters, Veneta Kunz, Hazel Merritt and Katie Thompson; and a half-brother, Floyd Davis.

Those left to honor the memory of Lee include her stepdaughter, Sandy Ayers of Michigan; a half sister, Doris Robbins of Forest Lake, Ill.; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and many special friends and neighbors.
