A funeral service for Donna Jo (Kent) Edge of rural Newton will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Newton.

Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton where a visitation with the family will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Memorials are designated to the First United Methodist Church, Jasper County Courthouse Christmas Lighting fund or Hospice of Jasper County.

Donna Jo Kent, the daughter of Floyd and Faye (Carpenter) Kent, was born Sept. 24, 1936, in Newton. Donna remained a lifelong resident of Jasper County. She graduated from Newton Senior High School with the Class of 1954.

On June 10, 1956, Donna was united in marriage to Carrol Edge in the Little Brown Church at Nashua. She was employed by Doane Insurance Agency until she started her family. Donna was a devoted wife for over 50 years and a loving mother to her three children.

Donna and Carrol operated the Edge Tree Farm in rural Newton. They were members of the Iowa Christmas Tree Growers Association. Donna enjoyed being a member of the Bringing Up Mothers Club (B.U.M.S.) and McCalmont Pals Neighborhood Club. She also enjoyed many good times shared with the Class of 1954. Donna was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Donna died Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 5, 2007, in Fort Dodge. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 25, 2007; parents; brother Burton Kent; sister-in-law Jeannette Kent; brother-in-law Gerald Edge and a nephew James Kent.

Those left to honor the memory of Donna include her son David and Carol Edge of Fort Dodge; daughter Lori and Doug Ricke of Fairfield, Conn.; son Mark Edge of Windsor Heights; four grandchildren Zachary Edge, Amy Edge, Ashley Edge and Kelsey Ricke; sister Mary Lou and Ivan Sheeler of Monroe; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends and neighbors.
