Thelma A. (Bixby) Dougal, 86, of Newton died Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, at the Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Newton with the Rev. Tiare Mathison-Bowie officiating. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton.

Memorials to the First Presbyterian Church or to Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the funeral home or at the church on the afternoon of the service.

Survivors include her husband, Clyde of Newton; one daughter, Diane Ratcliff of Morgan Hill, Calif.; two sisters, Betty Schnathorst and Lenora Reams, both of Greely, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Hubert Bixby; and one sister, Leona Creek.

Those left to honor Thelma's memory include her husband of 57 years, Clyde; daughter, Diane Ratcliff of Morgan Hill, California; two sisters, Betty Schnathorst and Lenora Reams, both of Greely, Colorado; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Beulah (Seaver) Bixby; brother, Hubert Bixby; and sister, Leona Creek.

Thelma was a graduate of Newton High School in 1941.

Thelma was a homemaker; she had also worked as a sales clerk at Nollen Drug and Walgreens.

Thelma was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Newton. She enjoyed cooking, baking, entertaining, traveling and being with her family and friends.
