PRAIRIE CITY — Margaret Den Hartog, 85, of Prairie City, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at Park Centre in Newton.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Reformed Church in Prairie City, with burial following at Waveland Cemetery. Visitation for Mrs. Den Hartog will be Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be given to the First Reformed Church or Park Centre.

The daughter of Evert and Alice Willemsen, Margaret was born on Aug. 3, 1922, at the family farm near Lynnville. She graduated from Lynnville High School in 1940. On Feb. 18, 1944, she was united in marriage to Howard Neil Den Hartog in Oskaloosa. Margaret worked with her husband on their farm and will be remembered for her excellent cooking skills.

She was a member of the First Reformed Church and was active in the Ladies Circles. In addition to cooking and baking, Margaret enjoyed gardening and sewing.

Those left to honor Margaret’s memory are her two sons, Dennis (Ruth) Den Hartog of Newton and Don (Sandy) Den Hartog of Pleasant Hill. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Steve (Kym) Den Hartog, Jennifer Den Hartog, Matthew (Amy) Den Hartog and Mike (Arianna) Den Hartog; five great-grandchildren, Ethan, Isaac, Savannah, Anthony and Cora; two sisters, Ella Mae Van Helten of Mitchellville and Cornelia Johnson of Grinnell; and one brother, Everett Willemsen of Grinnell.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband in 2003; and two brothers, Fred and John.
