Martin DeJong, the son of John B. DeJong and Winne I. Epink, was born September 16, 1917 in Killduff, Iowa. He was a lifelong resident of Jasper County.

Martin loved the land and was a farmer his entire life. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II.

Martin was united in marriage with Roberta M. Bunker Baldwin on January 23, 1982 in Newton, Iowa. He was a member of the V.F.W. Newton Post #1655 and the American Legion Newton Post #111.

Death came to Martin on Saturday, August 4, 2007 at Park Centre Health Care in Newton, Iowa. He was 89 years old.

Martin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Roberta; his brother, John DeJong and his sisters, Anna Swigart and Bessie DeJong.

Those left to honor Martin’s memory include his step-son, Dwight and Kathy Baldwin of Kellogg, Iowa; his step-daughter, Ila Campbell of Des Moines, Iowa; four step grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; and a sister, Esther Wilson of Newton, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at 11:00 am at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Friends may call after 9:00 am Tuesday. The family will be present from 10 - 11:00 am Tuesday at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home. Memorials may be designated in Martin’s name.
