Lawrence L. Daughenbaugh, 91, of Newton died Aug. 18, 2007, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Assembly of God Church in Newton. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Greenfield Cemetery in Greenfield. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Memorials to Teen Challenge in Colfax may be left at the funeral home or the church the morning of the service.

The son of Roy and Irene (Huff) Daughenbaugh, he was born Feb. 16, 1916, in Anita. He grew up in Anita and moved to Newton in 1965.

He was united in marriage with Florence Wicks on July 3, 1968, in Unionville, Mo. He worked in the maintenance department of the Vernon Company as a night watchman for 17 years, retiring in 1982. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and attended the First Assembly of God Church in Newton.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. While in the Navy, he received 12 Engagement Stars. He served with his brother, Sam. He enjoyed gardening and was known for his tomatoes and cooking from scratch.

He is survived by one daughter, Pam (Terry) Needham of Newton; one son, Lawrence “Larry” Daughenbaugh of Milwaukee, Wis.; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Elaine Daughenbaugh of Greenfield; and many nieces and nephews and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Florence, 1993; one son, Mike Daughenbaugh; two brothers, Howard and Sam; and three sisters, Mary, Margaret and Jessie.
