Dave E. Borts Jr., 69 of Colfax, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at Kavanaugh on 56th Hospice House of Des Moines.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Howard Street Christian Church of Colfax. Burial will be at Greencastle Cemetery.

Visitation for Mr. Borts will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home of Colfax.

Dave E. Borts Jr., age 69 of Colfax, died Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at Kavanaugh on 56th Hospice House of Des Moines. Funeral services for Mr. Borts will be held on Friday, October 5, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Howard Street Christian Church of Colfax with burial following at Greencastle Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Borts will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2007 from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. with family present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home of Colfax. Memorials may be given to the Dave Borts Jr. Memorial Fund

The son of Dave and Esther (Patterson) Borts Sr., Dave was born on July 1, 1938 at Iowa City. On December 14, 1962 Dave and Penny were united in marriage at Des Moines. Dave was a lifelong Colfax resident. Dave spent his career working 41 years at the Monroe Company. Dave enjoyed spending time with his family and was especially fond of his grandchildren. Dave will be remembered as the “local grandpa” for many of his grandchildren’s friends. Dave was an avid NASCAR and Chicago Bears fan. He also enjoyed taking time to fish.

Those left to honor his memory are his children; Brenda Desplanques and her husband Mike of Colfax; Dave Borts III and his partner David of Des Moines; John Borts and his wife Carmen of Colfax; Lonnie Borts and his wife Jodie of Colfax; and Robin Garner and her husband Bill of Colfax. Those also left to honor his memory are two sisters; Marie (Kenny) Bos of Colfax, and Bonnie (Jack) Good of Colfax; fourteen grandchildren; Jorden, Colten, Camden, Jayden, Chaylee, Jessica, Robbie, Austin, Samantha, Emma, Tom-Tom, Mark, Beth, and Caleb; three sister-in-laws; Judy Borts of Colfax; Doris Borts of Colfax, and Beulah Borts of Grinnell, along with many nieces and nephews.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, wife Penny, six brothers; Jack, Jim, Frances, Henry, Bill, and Jerry; and four sisters; Esther, Beverly, Margie, and Sharon.
