MONROE — Kayla Boner, 14, of Monroe died Friday, Nov. 2, 2007, at Blank Children’s Hospital of Des Moines.

Funeral services for Kayla will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Prairie City-Monroe High School in Monroe with burial following at Silent City Cemetery of Monroe. Visitation for Kayla will be today at First Baptist Church of Monroe with family present to greet friends from 5 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Monroe Recreation Complex.

The daughter of Rick and Dana (Van Zante) Boner, Kayla was born on Oct. 22, 1993, in Pella. Kayla was a member of the Prairie City-Monroe eighth grade class.

She was a great athlete and kept busy every season of the year with sports. Her first love was softball and basketball, but she also played volleyball and participated in track. Kayla really enjoyed music, whether it was listening to it on her I-Pod or playing the drums. Kayla also enjoyed shopping, talking on her cell phone, working at Second Chance Consignment, participating in AWANA and spending time with her friends and cousins. She was always a person who would put a smile on your face. She was also great with little kids and loved to play with her younger cousins.

Those left to honor her memory are her parents, Rick and Dana; one sister Kristin Boner; her grandparents, Richard and Sharon Boner, Duane and Cindy Van Zante, and Ron and Twila Van Essen; her aunts and uncles, Amanda and Josh Burg, Bobbi Jo Hommer, Traci and Jim Olson, Brian and Sara Boner, and Marci and Adam Prose; her great-grandparents, Betty Billingsley, Alice Van Essen, and Lynneth Hommer; her boyfriend, Kurt Timmons; her friend who was like her brother, Dalton Speers; and many cousins and friends.

Kayla was preceded in death by her grandma, Diane Van Essen; great-grandpa, Jim Billingsley; great-grandma and grandpa, Delmon and Lucille Van Zante, great-grandma, Gertrude McCullough; and an infant cousin, James Boner.
