Darlene Agard, 90, died Wednesday morning, Aug. 29, 2007, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton. The Pence-Reese Funeral Home of Newton has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County are suggested.

Darlene, the daughter of Clarence W. and Olive May (Rardon) Davis, was born July 11, 1917, in Yale. A longtime resident of Newton, she attended Newton schools. She was employed at Vernon Company from 1941 to 1945, the Maytag Company from 1952 to 1957, and also worked as a waitress in the Newton area.

On Nov. 22, 1941, Darlene was united in marriage to Leo Dwight “Brownie” Agard in Newton. She had devoted her life to her husband, family and friends, and attended the Newton First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed game shows and listening to the radio and ’40s music.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo on Oct. 20, 1996; her daughter, Janice Bucklin; and three brothers: Bill, Jack and Dean Davis.

A private family graveside service will be held in the veteran’s section at Newton Union Cemetery in Newton.

Those left to honor the memory of Darlene include her daughter, Cheryl (Maurice) Cooper of Newton; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Margie Huck and Marilyn Waddell, both of Newton; and two brothers, Bud Davis and Tom Davis, both of Newton.
