KELLOGG - Bill J. Knapp, 62, of Box 164, Kellogg, a wellknown central Iowa stockcar driver for more than 20 years, died Sunday evening, June 2, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton following a heart attack.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton.

Father Edward Susic, pastor of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton after 1 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation with the family will be held following 6:30 wake services until 8 p.m.

Memorials in his name will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Roberta; three daughters, Sherry, (Mrs. John) Mottet of Nevada, Cathy (Mrs. Steve) Van Ryswyk of Monroe and June Clute of Newton; six grandchildren; a brother, John; and a sister, Mary Jane Waddle of Monroe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Ralph, Robert and Carl, a sister, Hazel Henry, an infant daughter, Susan Kay, and an infant granddaughter.

Mr. Knapp, an employee of the Maytag Co., automatic assembly department for 30 years, had retired.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and United Auto Workers, Local 997, Retirees Union.

The son of Arthur and Lena Stultz Knapp, he was born March 19, 1929 in Clarence, mo., and attended Jasper County Schools and Newton Community High School.

He was married to Roberta Johnson Dec. 25, 1948 in Newton.

Mr. Knapp also had resided in Grinnell and Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, June 1991
