BRAZORIA, Texas - Funeral services for Alvin Cutting Knapp, 66, of Brazoria, Texas, a former Newton and Colfax resident, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton.

The Rev. Scott Coulter, pastor of the Newton United Presbyterian Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the veterans section of Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Visitation with the family will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the American Cancer Society may be left at the funeral home.

Mr. Knapp died Wednesday in Lake Jackson, Texas, Nursing Home.

Survivors are his wife, Dorothy of Brazoria, Texas; seven sons, Royal of Seabrook, Texas, Allen of League City, Texas, Robert of Chicago, Ill., Michael of Brazoria, Texas, Alvin II of Chicago, Ill., Kevin of Brazoria, Texas, and David of Fort Worth, Texas; two daughters, Janice (Mrs. Dan) Dutcher of Mission Hills, S.D., and Barbara (Mrs. Larry) Russell of Moses lake, Wash.; 21 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, S/Sgt. Tommy Knapp April 4, 1968 and a brother, Orville Knapp April 5, 1979.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the Navy.

Mr. Knapp, who was an over-the-road truck driver for 40 years, was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

The son of Alfred and Grace Cutting Knapp, he was born Oct. 4, 1924 in Newton and attended Newton schools.

He resided in the Colfax area before moving to New Mexico in 1960, returning to live in Newton for short periods of time.

He was married to Dorothy Henderson in 1943 in Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1991
