SOUTH YARMOUTH, Mass. - Funeral services for Thomas Michael Gallagher, 61, of South Yarmouth, Mass., a former resident of Newton, were held Saturday, Jan. 21, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Garden City, N.Y.

Burial was in Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury, Long Island, N.Y.

Memorials to a fund in Mr. Gallagher's name may be sent to the Jasper County Historical Society or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, Massachusetts Chapter, 818 Harrison Ave., Boston, Mass. 02118.

Survivors are his wife, Judith; a son, Matthew, of Phoenix, Ariz.; three daughters, Mary Karen Gallaher of Mansfield, Mass., Katherine Keefe of South Dennis, Mass., and Nora Hoffman of Foxboro, Mass.; and four grandchildren.

Also surviving are his mother, Zola Lister Gallagher of Woodbury, N.Y.; a brother, James, Garden City, Long Island, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews; and two cousins, including Jody (Mrs. David) Gooch of Newton.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Daniel; his father, W. Neal Gallagher; and a brother, W. Patrick.

Mr. Gallagher, a salesman for the Maytag Co. for seven years, became a partner in Gallagher Bros. Inc. in Newton York City for 15 years prior to his retirement in 1983 and had been a sales man for U.S. Tele-centers in South Yarmouth, Mass., for the past year.

Mr. Gallagher, a veteran of the Army, was serving as a sergeant when he was discharged.

He was born May 3, 1933 in Newton, was a 1951 graduate of Newton Community High School and received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., in 1955. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1995
