Alta L. Beukema
Alta Louise Schumann Beukema, 78, of Midtown Apartments 4M, a lifelong resident of Newton, died Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Skiff Medical Center of schleroderma.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Newton Memorial park Cemetery.
The Rev. Jerome E. Egel, pastor of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, will conduct services.
Memorials in her name may be left at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
Survivors are her husband, Elmer; a daughter, Linda Lenger of Newton; a granddaughter; a great-grandson; a brother Carl H. Schumann of Newton; and three sisters, Gladys Jackson of Sylmar, Calif., Velma Oliver of Des Moines and Hilda Bowie of Newton.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Clarence Schumann.
Mrs. Beukema was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and past member of the Izaak Walton Club and the Women of the Moose.
Mrs. Beukema, former operator of the Newton Daisy Lunch, had been employed by Winpower Co. and the Maytag Dairy.
The daughter of William and Amanda Schmidt Schumann, she was born July 19, 1915 in Newton.
She was married to Elmer Beukema Jan. 4, 1941 in Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, October 1993
