L. M. Van Hoosen Dies Wednesday; Rites Saturday

Loren M. Van Hoosen, 67, of 826 N. 10th Ave. E., a longtime resident of Newton, died Wednesday afternoon at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church.

The Rev. James Conger, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Wallace Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Friday.

Memorial contributions to the American cancer Society will be accepted. They may be left at the Wallace Funeral Home.

Survivors are his wife, Margery; two sons, James of Wapakoneta, Ohio, and Charles of Salt Lake City, Utah; six daughters, Mrs. Lee (Shirley) Cooper, Mrs. Mark (Mary Margaret) Altemeier, Connie Van Hoosen, Mrs. Kenneth (Janet) Wallace and Mrs. Terry (Betty) Webster, all of Newton, and Mrs. Mark (Diane) Blackwood of West Des Moines; and 14 grandchildren.

Also surviving are four stepsons, William Hansen of Zwingle, Richard Hansen of Solon, James Hanson of Coralville and Eugene Hansen of Iowa City; two step-daughters, Mrs. Paul (Wanda) Hardenbrook and Mrs. Dan (Mary) Mohler, both of Newton; 24 step-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Myrna Cochran; a brother; and a sister.

Mr. Van Hoosen was a welder and trucker.

The son of Charles and Martha Callison Van Hoosen, he was born June 18, 1911 in Jasper County.

He was married to Margery Thomas Hansen Nov. 13, 1971 at the Christian Church in Colfax. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, March 1979
