COLFAX - Graveside rites for Charles Battles, 84, of Colfax, a lifelong resident of Jasper County, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at the Colfax Cemetery.
The Rev. John Mc Kinstry, pastor of the Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax, will conduct services.
Friends may call at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax after 5 p.m. today.
He died Sunday at the Des Moines General Hospital.
Survivors are four nieces, Shirley Ann Yunker and Carolyn Stearns, both of Yakima, Wash., Maxine Gary of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Doris Hunter of Mingo.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Carol Kaldenberg, Ethel Signs and Pearl Stacker; and a brother, Finley.
Mr. Battles had been a house painter.
The son of Ephraim and Mary Baldwin Battles, he was born Dec. 11, 1907 in rural Jasper County and was a 1925 graduate of Mingo Community High School. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, October 1992
