Maynard E. Bankes

COLFAX - Funeral services for Maynard E. Bankes, 73, of 636 East Division St., Colfax, a resident of Colfax since the late 1930s, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton.

The Rev. Kenneth Wallace, pastor of the Newburg-Chester United Church of Christ will conduct services. Burial will be in Mc Keever Cemetery, north of Colfax.

Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials in his name may be left at the funeral home.

He died Sunday evening at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines of heart failure.

Survivors are his wife, Violet; two sons, Mark and Sam, both of Oskaloosa; three daughters, Pat (Mrs. Larry) Cushatt, Helen (Mrs. David) Pratt and Susan (Mrs. Chester) Wallis, all of Colfax; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother, N. J. Bankes of Des Moines; and two sisters, Louise Hope of Northwood.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Norma Jean Miller in November, 1988, and four brothers.

Mr. Bankes retired from the Maytag Co. May 31, 1976 after 33 years. He was working in the southwest machining department at the time of his retirement.

The son of Ossie and Lou Camp Bankes, he was born July 18, 1919 in Green City, Mo., and attended Green City area schools.

He was married to Violet Wallace Nov. 30, 1940 in Colfax. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, October 1992
