Frances Starkey

Frances Rock Starkey, 88, of Newton Health Care Center, a resident of Newton for 16 years, died Saturday evening, Oct. 27, at the center of Alzheimer's Disease.

Graveside rites will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Oakridge Cemetery in Springfield, Ill.

The Rev. Jim Todd, pastor of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Springfield, will conduct services.

Wallace-Pence Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Memorials to the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association will be accepted.

Survivors are a daughter, Virginia (Mrs. Alan) Roberts of Newton; three step-children; three grandchildren, Kathryn (Mrs. John) Van zee of Prairie City, Jane (Mrs. Bill) Overland of Indianola and David Roberts of Newton; three grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Walter E. Beckwith, her second husband, Rudie D. Starkey; a son, Walter E. Beckwith Jr.; and a brother, Paul H. Rock.

Mrs. Starkey, a microbiologist at the State of Illinois Public Health Laboratory, was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Springfield, Ill.

The daughter of David E. and Emma Spiker Rock, she was born June 7, 1902 in Uhrichsville, Ohio, and was graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, Pa. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, October 1990
