LONG BEACH, Calif. - Karen Kay Simpson, 41, of 5111 Gardena Ave., Long Beach, Calif., a native of Newton, died Saturday, Jan. 20, at Long Beach Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Community Presbyterian Church in North Long Beach, Calif.

Hunter Mortuary in Long Beach is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are her mother and step-father, Neva and Floyd Smith of Long Beach; a sister, Janna (Mrs. Tyler) Woodward of Lakewood, Calif.; two nephews, Greg Russell and Tyler Woodward, both of Lakewood; and a niece, Lisa Russell of Lakewood.

Area survivors are an uncle, Wade Cross of Baxter; and four aunts, Irma Secor of Fort Dodge, and Alice Albright, Roberta Hegwood and Mary Jean Farver, all of Newton.

Miss Simpson, a graduate of a Long Beach high school, was employed for several years at a Long Beach hospital.

The daughter of Orville and Neva Cross Simpson, she was born March 30, 1948 in Newton.

At the age of four she moved with her parents to Long Beach. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1990
