Bernice "Bernie" Lenox Shannon, 56, of 305 W. 12th St. S., died Wednesday noon, April 10, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Jerry Brown, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Reese Funeral Home after 6 p.m. today. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the American Cancer Society may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are her husband, Larry; three sons, Jay D. and Jerry R. both, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Scott S. of Newton; two daughters, Leni (Mrs. Douglas) Cooper of Newton and Lori Liston of Denver, Colo.; a grandchild; four brothers, Robert Lenox of Clifton, Texas, Raymond Lenox of Sheldon, Eldon Lenox of Marshalltown and Melvin Lenox of Mesa, Ariz.; and a sister, Della Arthur of Spirit Leke.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, James, and two sisters, Dorothy and Donna.

Mrs. Shannon, an X-ray technician, had worked at Newton Clinic for a number of years in the 1970s and for the past two years at Foley Clinic in Des Moines.

The daughter of Eldon and Marie Fronk Lenox, she was born Jan. 13, 1935 in Spirit Lake, was a 1954 graduate of Colfax Community High School and had received her technician training at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

She was married to Larry T. Shannon May 1, 1965 in Schaller.

Mrs. Shannon had moved to Newton in 1966 from Storm Lake and from there to Indianapolis, Ind., in 1983. She returend to Newton in 1986. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, April 1991
