Rex R. Rorabaugh

COLFAX - Rex Raymond Rorabaugh, 82, of Colfax, a farmer in the Colfax area for more than half a century, died Thursday, Oct. 27, at the Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Colfax United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Michael Orthel, pastor of the church, will conduct services.

Burial will be in Rorabaugh Cemetery east of Colfax.

Friends may call at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax after noon Sunday and visitation with the family will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County will be accepted.

Mr. Rorabaugh is survived by his wife, Wilma; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Sally of Newton; and three grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, John of Colfax and Wayne of Reasnor, and a sister, Wanda Selbher of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Donald "Dutch," and a brother, Royal "Bus."

Mr. Rorabaugh was a member of the Colfax United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Moose Lodge in Newton.

As a youth he was a baseball player for several teams, including Metz and two teams in Des Moines.

The son of Fred and Mary Hummel Rorabaugh, he was born Sept. 18, 1912 in Colfax.

He was a 1929 graduate of Colfax Community High School.

He was married to Wilma Murphy May 29, 1940 in Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, October 1994
