Juanita S. Stecher, 79, of Kellogg died of fibrosis of the lung Sunday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home. Burial will be at Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg.

Mrs. Stecher, a homemaker, was born in Newton and had lived in the Kellogg area since 1952. She was a member of the Kellogg Historical Society, Jasper County Historical Society and Glendale Grange.

Survivors include her husband, Leonard; a daughter, Shirley Pille of Haverhill; a sister, Doris Hawk of Kellogg; a stepsister, Vivian Hartwig of Pender, Neb.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after noon today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to Hickory Grove Church or Kellogg Historical Society. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, June 1994

Juanita Stecher

KELLOGG - Juanita Madoll Stecher, 79, of P.O. Box 277, Kellogg, died Sunday, June 27, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines of fibrosis of the lung.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton.

The Rev. Nolan Kelsey of Newton will conduct services. Burial will be in Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Tuesday and visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the Hickory Grove Church or the Kellogg Historical Society will be accepted.

Survivors are her husband, Leonard; a daughter, Shirley (Mrs. Ray) Pille of Haverhill; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris Hawk of Kellogg; and a step-sister, Vivian Hartwig of Pender, Neb.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Fred Pieper, a sister, Lauretta Verwers, a brother, James Madoll, a step-brother, Edward Pieper, and a grandchild.

Mrs. Stecher, who attended the Hickory Grove Church, was a charter member of the Kellogg Historical Society and was a member of the Jasper County Historical Society and the Glendale Grange.

A homemaker, she had worked on the farm and for a short time for Midwest manufacturing Co. of Kellogg.

She liked to fish, crochet and dance.

The daughter of Elias and Marie Davis Madoll, she was born March 7, 1915 in Newton and attended rural Barret community schools.

She was married to Leonard Stecher Sept. 21, 932 in Aleado, Ill.

The Stechers had resided on a farm near Kellogg until 1947 when they moved to Minnesota and ran a resort until 1952. They moved back to the farm, residing thee until moving to Kellogg in 1975. They retired from farming in 1977. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, June 1994
