Mary Siegers, 96, of Newton died of a heart ailment Tuesday at heritage Manor Care Center, where she was a resident 11 years. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, with burial in Newton Union Cemetery.

Mrs. Siegers was born in Montezuma and moved to Newton in 1930. She retired after teaching in Postville, Orange City, Hartley, Sioux center and Newton and was a member of the Presbyterian Church and 20th Century Club.

A niece and nephew survive.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. today at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home, where the family will greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to her church. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, November 1994

Mary Siegers

Funeral services for Mary Fulton Siegers, 96, of Heritage Manor Care Center, formerly of 713 E. 5th St. N., a resident of Newton since July, 1930, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, at the First Presbyterian Church.

The Rev. William Calhoun, pastor of the church, will conduct services.

Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home after 1 p.m. today and visitation with the family will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

She died Tuesday morning at Heritage Manor.

Survivors are a nephew, Robert Fulton of Montezuma; a niece, Ardella Fitzsimmons of Montezuma; and three great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Judge P.J. Siegers, July 16, 1972, two sisters, Irma Fitzsimmons and Esther Gauley, a brother, Worth Fulton, a nephew and a great-niece.

Mrs. Siegers was an active member of the First Presbyterian church since 1930 and the 20th Century Club since 1936.

Mrs. Siegers had taught high school in Postville, Orange City, Hartley, Sioux Center and Newton.

The daughter of William and Mary Etta Mann Fulton, she was born April 29, 1898 in Montezuma, was graduated from Montezuma High School in May, 1914, and was graduated with a bachelor of arts degree from Grinnell College in June, 1918.

She was married to P.J. Siegers June 2, 1926. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, November 1994.
