Pearl Rose Schakel

DES MOINES - Pearl Rose Schakel, 96, of Valley View Village in Des Moines, a former resident of Prairie City, died Tuesday evening, Aug. 21, at the Village.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City.

A nephew, the Rev. Robert D. Williams, retired United Methodist Church minister, will conduct services. Burial will be in Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to Valley View Village may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are a brother, Paul Schakel of Monroe; and several nieces and nephews.

Miss Schakel was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and three brothers.

She was a member of the Des Moines First United Methodist Church, AV Chapter of the PEO in Prairie City and the Valley View Village Guild.

She was a retired employee of the State of Iowa Revenue Department.

The daughter of Dirk and Sophia DeLarm Schakel, she was born Nov. 14, 1893 in Beaconfield. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, August 1990
