Addison Fraizer Callison Obituary

Addison Fraizer Callison, son of William and Nancy Callison, was born in Virginia, February 24, 1854, and departed this life August 18, 1927, at the age of 71 years, 5 months and 25 days.

When eight years old, shortly after the death of his mother, Fraizer, in company with his father, two brothers, and one sister, came to Iowa to make their home. On December 24, 1864, about two years after they reached Iowa, the father was married to Roseltha Merrow.

Fraizer Callison was married to Dora Morris of Kellogg, Iowa, on March 28, 1878. To this union seven children were born.

There are left to mourn his loss six children: Erville T. Callison of Kellogg, Iowa, William K. Callison of Manning, Iowa, Morris F. Callison of Letcher, South Dakota, Mrs. May Smith, Mrs. Odenye Carris and Miss Maurine Callison of Redfield, Iowa. One daughter, Bess, passed to the "Great Beyond", July 14, 1918. Besides the sons and daughters there are mourning his loss 16 grandchildren and one great grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Eliza Wilson of Beresford South Dakota; three half sisters, Mrs. Sadie Down of Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs. W. O. Foster of Chicago, Ill., and Miss Minnie Callison of Newton, Iowa; two half brothers, J. Franklin Callison of Kellogg, Iowa, and Elton C. Callison of Newton, Iowa.

In 1902 Mr. Callison and his family moved to Dexter, Iowa. After a period of five years they went to Plankinton, South Dakota where they made their home for three years. In the fall of 1910 they came to Redfield, Iowa. December 7th of the same year his wife passed away. Since her death the family home has been kept up by Odenye and Maurine.

Early in life Mr. Callison was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church of which he was a faithful member to the time of his death and a regular attendant until the encroachments of his chronic ailment made it impossible for him to attend regularly.

Mr. Callison was in poor health for over twenty years, but he did not complain about the condition of his health or over reverses that he had even to close friends. He had the calm even temper which is becoming of a Christian gentleman. He was a man of few words, but of good judgement, noble ideals, and warm sympathies. He was a good father, and a good neighbor. Not only his family knew him as "Dad", but many of his fellow citizens likewise knew him as "Dad Callison". His family will not be alone in missing him, but he will also be greatly missed by his many friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the home last Thursday morning at 10 o'clock, the Rev. Hoensheldt of Ogden, former Methodist pastor here, officiating, assisted by Rev. R. E. Gugeler of this city and Rev. Adamson of Linden. After the services here the funeral cortage drove to Kellogg, Ia., where a short service was conducted at the cemetery where interment took place.
