Mary E. Schakel Dies on Thursday; Rites Saturday

PRAIRIE CITY - Mrs. Luther (Mary Elizabeth) Schakel, 65 of Prairie City died Thursday evening at the Clear View Manor in Prairie City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Prairie City Christian Church.

The Rev. Alexander Haines, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. James Pemble, pastor of the Colfax United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Waveland Cemetery in Prairie city.

Memorials to the Cancer Society will be accepted.
Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City is handling arrangements.

Survivors are her husband; a brother, Clarence Yowell of Monroe; and a sister, Mrs. Wayne (Laurel) Wagaman of Prairie City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters.

The daughter of Issac and Della Jenks Yowell, she was born June 4, 1913 at Prairie City and was graduated from Prairie City Community High School.

She was married Mar. 10, 1934 at Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, July 1978
