Mary Lou Wickliff

Mary Lou Shepherd Wickliff, 60, 326 E. 11th St. N., a member of the Jasper County Women's Bowling association hall of fame, died of cancer Thursday, July 21, at Skiff Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Jerry Brown, senior pastor of the Newton First United Methodist Church, will conduct services.

Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Sunday. Visitation with the family will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County will be accepted.

Survivors are her husband, Donald Jr.; four sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel G. and Marilyn, Terry L. and Jane and Mark J. and Wendy, all of Newton, and Charles D. and Lori of Kellogg; her mother, Ada Chambers of Newton; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brothers, Robert Shepherd of Bakersfield, Calif., and two sisters, Norinne Hardenbrook and Doris Fosenburg, both of Newton.

Mrs. Wickliff, a homemaker, was preceded in death by her father, a grand-daughter, Teila, in infancy, a daughter-in-law, Susan Wickliff, and a brother, Charles Shepherd.

Mrs. Wickliff was a member of the Newton First United Methodist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Women of the Moose, as well as the Jasper County Women's Bowling Association.

The daughter of Charles and Ada Whetstine Shepherd, she was born May 2, 1934 at Lynnville and was a graduate of Newton Community High School.

She was married to Donald D. Wickliff Jr. Nov. 24, 1950 at Monroe. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, July 1994
