Meta Saak, 89, Dies Saturday; Services Today

BAXTER - Funeral services for Mrs. Henry (Meta) Saak, 89, a resident of the Colonial Manor in Baxter since 1972 and lifelong resident of the Baxter community, were held this morning at the Bethany United Church of Christ, east of Baxter.

The Rev. Harold Behle, pastor of the church, conducted services. Burial was in the Bethany Cemetery.

Boyd-Nickell Funeral Home in Baxter handled arrangements.

She died Saturday at the Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Virgil and Doris Saak of Baxter; a grandson, Wayne Saak of Baxter; and a sister, Mrs. Ella Schmidt of Marshalltown.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1972, a daughter in infancy, her parents, a brother and two sisters.

Mrs. Saak was a lifelong, baptized and confirmed member of the Bethany United Church of Christ.

The daughter of Charles and Fredericka Boebecher Sanderman, she was born Aug. 29, 1888 at Baxter and attended Jasper County rural schools. She resided in the Baxter community until 1945 when she moved to Baxter. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, May 1978
