Harold Mahl

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Harold Mahl, 77, of San Diego, Calif., a former longtime resident of Newton, died of pneumonia Saturday morning, Jan. 21, in San Diego.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the East Lawn Palm Funeral Home, 5801 E. Grant Rd., Tucson, Ariz.

Mr. Mahl, who resided in Newton from 1926 until 1962, was a member of the Newton First Lutheran Church, and was employed at Peters Hatchery and also was a painter.

Survivors are two sons, Gary of Newton and David of San Diego, Calif.; two step-sons; a step-daughter; and two step-grandsons.

Also surviving are a sister, Marion Fick and two brothers, Elmer of Newton and Robert of Davenport.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine, parents, two sisters and three brothers.

Mr. Mahl was married to Helen Taylor and later to Lorraine Brown.

A native of Waterloo he lived for many years in Tucson, Ariz., before moving to San Diego a few year ago. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1995
