Elmer Klopping, Former Resident, Dies in California

Elmer A. Klopping, 80, of 3335 West's Lane in Stockton, Calif., a former resident of Mariposa Township in Jasper County, died Saturday in a hospital at Stockton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday in Stockton.

Survivors are his wife, Pearl; a son, Donald; a daughter, Marguerite; four grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.

Also surviving are two brothers, Louis of Lindstrom, Minn., and Roy of Nampa, Idaho, and two sisters, Mrs. Esther K. Howard of Elgin, Ill., and Mrs. Wendell (Edith) Sparrow of Waukesha, Wis.

Also surviving are several cousins, including Mrs. Vernon Klopping, Mrs. Eva Damman and Miss Minnie Altemeier, and others in the Newton area.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son in infancy, a sister and a brother.

The son of Henry and Carrie Vieth Klopping, he was born Dec. 7, 1897 in Mariposa Township and received his education in Mariposa No. 4 School and John Fletcher College in University Park.

He made his home in University Park before moving to Stockton, Calif., in the early 1940s. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, March 1978
