William Koopman Dies on Friday; Services Tuesday

William J. Koopman, 77, of 747 N. 4th Ave. E., a resident of Newton for 32 years, died Friday evening at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Wallace Funeral Home.

The Rev. James Conger, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.

Survivors are his wife, Eva; his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Anne Koopman of Newton; two grandsons, Charles Koopman and Bill Koopman, both of Newton; a great-grandson, Jimmy Koopman of Newton; and three sisters, Mrs. Mable De Joode of Newton, Mrs. Lorna Parker of Sigourney and Mrs. Viola Pickett of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Keith James Koopman in 1975, and a brother in infancy.

The son of James A. and Maggie Van Rees Koopman, he was born Feb. 14, 1902 in Pella.

Mr. Koopman had worked at Rolscreen Co., in Pella for a number of years and at the Vernon Co., for 21 years, retiring Feb. 7, 1964.

He was married to Eva Jones Aug. 2, 1920 at Knoxville. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, April 1979
