NEWTON, IA. - Marjorie L. Kerr, 65, of Newton died of cancer Sunday at home. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Wallace-pence Funeral Home, with burial at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.

Mrs. Kerr was born in Sheridan, Wyo., and lived in Knoxville before moving to Newton in 1948. She was a department manager for Western Auto, and more recently was co-owner and operator of House Doctor, a cleaning service in Newton. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, John; five daughters, Janice Bryant of Indianola, Ruth Bachman of Cedar rapids, Susan Theis of Woodland Park, Colo., and Sandra Chilcote and Jacqueline Foreman, both of Newton; a sister, Eunice VanVark of Lamoni; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Jasper County. ~ The Des Moines (IA) Register, May 1991

Marjorie L. Burdick Kerr, 65, of 704 E. 4th St. N., a resident of Newton since 1948, died Sunday afternoon, May 12, at her home of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev Frederick Kramer, retired Newton pastor, will conduct services. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.

Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are her husband, John W.; five daughters, Sandra chilcote and Jacqueline Foreman, both of Newton, Janice Bryant of Indianola, Ruth Bachman of Cedar Rapids and Susan Theis of Woodland Park, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and a sister, Eunice Van Vark of Lamoni.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, John B., a brother, Bradford, and a sister, Ruth Louwsma.

Mrs. Kerr, a member of the First United Methodist Church, was co-owner-operator of the Newton House Doctor and had been manager of Toyland, Western Auto and Montgomery Wards.

The daughter of Bradford and Jane Andersen Burdick, she was born July 26, 1925 in Sheridan, Wyo., and attended Knoxville Community High School.

She was married to John W. Kerr April 7, 1942 in Knoxville. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Mon 13 May 1991.
