GRINNELL - Ardith L. Byers Kerr, 59, of Grinnell, a former resident of Newton, died Tuesday, June 12, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.

The Rev. Dennis Haas, Grinnell College chaplain, will conduct services. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials in her name may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are her husband, Francis M.; five sons, Francis Jr., James and Garry, all of Grinnell, Brian of O'Fallon, Mo., and Ronald of Des Moines; five daughters, Judith Meythaler, Linda Kerr and Rhonda Ortell, all of Grinnell, Eileen Kerr of Des Moines; and Theresa Wallace of Altamount Springs, Fla.; and 17 grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Clarence Byers of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Hughey Byers of Newton; and five sisters, Verdell Mack of Dickinson, Texas, Joyce Land of Belleville, Ill., Mary Courtney of Knoxville, Janice Hisler of North Fort Myers, Fla., and Yvonne Davidson of Chariton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Steven, two sisters, Betty Byers and Leila Mae Jacobs, and two brothers, Jerry Lee Byers and Orva Byers.

Born Sept. 3, 1930 in Bussey, she later moved to Knoxville where she attended school.

She was married to Francis Kerr Oct. 16, 1948 in Newton and the couple resided in Newton until moving to Grinnell in 1953.

Mrs. Kerr operated a housekeeping service in Grinnell. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, June 1990
