BAXTER - Funeral services for Melinda Kanne, 82, a native and longtime resident of Baxter, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 12, at the Bethany United Church of Christ west of Baxter.

The Rev. Bill Kanne, pastor of the church, will conduct services and burial will be in the Bethany Cemetery.

Boyd-Davis Funeral Home in Baxter is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by cousins.

Miss Kanne was preceded in death by her parents.

A 1926 graduate of Baxter Community High School, she was graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls in 1928 and the National College of Education a year later.

She taught elementary schools in several Iowa communities from 1929 to 1942.

After attending the Minneapolis, Minn., Business College, she was employed briefly in Minneapolis and later by the Army Signal Corps and Trans World Airlines (TWA), both in Washington, D.C.

Miss Kanne returned to Baxter in 1947 and was an employee of the State Bank of Baxter until her retirement in 1973.

The daughter of Louis and Lydia Stock Kanne, she was born Sept. 12, 1908 in Baxter and raised in Baxter. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, April 1991
