IOWA CITY - Ira J. Stover, 86, of Iowa City died Monday at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a brief illness.

Private family services will be held at a later date. The body was been cremated and burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City.

He is survived by one son, Gary of Iowa City, and two daughters, Joan Schnoebelen of Newton and Geri Nesbit of Tonkawa, Okla. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife in July, the former Florence Weed, one brother and two sisters.

Mr. Stover was born July 7, 1906, in Iowa City, the son of Joseph and Ingemisca McLaughlin Stover. He married his wife in 1930.

He was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone for many years and was a member of the Pioneers. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, October 1992
