Elizabeth M. Kaisand

GRINNELL - Elizabeth Margaret Kaisand, 90, a resident of the Mayflower Home in Grinnell and native of Jasper County, died Monday, February 18 at the Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.

The Rev. David Bowman, pastor of the Grinnell Congregational United Church of Christ, will conduct services.

Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Memorials to the Mayflower Home Human Needs Fund or Camp Sunnyside in Des Moines may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are a sister, Lela Tracy of Grinnell; a nephew; and four nieces, including Edith Hasselbrink and Helen Sparks, both of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Anna Davis, and four brothers, Jacob C. Kaisand, Gus J. Kaisand, Charles P. Kaisand and John Kaisand.

Miss Kaisand was a member of the Grinnell Congregational United Church of Christ and the Iowa State Education Association.

She taught school in the Gladbrook and Spencer before moving to Cedar Rapids where she taught mathematics at Mc Kinley High School before retiring in the 1960s.

Miss Kaisand, a fan of the Cedar Rapids entry in the 3-I Baseball League and the University of Iowa athletic teams, spent some summers teaching in Montana.

The daughter of Conrad and Matilda Frenzlein Kaisand, she was born November 22, 1900 near Grinnell, attended school in the Bethel area of Jasper County and was a 1918 graduate of Grinnell high school.

She was a 1922 graduate of Grinnell College and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, February 1991
