Elsie I. Little

Elsie I. Vance Little, 87, of the Newton Health Care Center, a longtime resident of Newton, died Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 29, at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines following a heart attack.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

Dr. Douglas Oelke, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Thursday. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the Jasper County Senior Citizens may be left at the Senior Citizens Center or the funeral home.

Survivors are five grandchildren, Charlis Shaddox of Mabank, Texas, Patricia Colwell of Knoxville and Donald Little, David Little and Mary Penny, all of Newton; two brothers, Harry L. Vance of Newton and James B. Vance of Des Moines; and two sisters, Gladys "Sal" (Mrs. Arthur) Nelson and Katie E. (Mrs. Azel "Red") Oliver, both of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Frank, May 18, 1976, a son, Donald M. in 1955, a sister, Gwendyline Tucker, and a brother in infancy.

Mrs. Little, a member of the First Baptist Church and Jasper County Senior Citizens, had been an apartment complex manager in Tacoma, Wash.

The daughter of Bingham M. and Isabel Carr Vance, she was born Oct. 30, 1903 in White City.

She was married to Frank M. Little Jan. 16, 1924 in Newton.

Mrs. Little had resided in Newton for many years prior to moving to Tacoma, Wash., where she resided for many years prior to moving back to Newton in 1973. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1991
