Lois A. Lister

Mrs. Jonathan W. "Doc" (Lois A.) Lister, 75, of 1209 W. 15th St. S., Apt. 107, a longtime resident of Newton, died Saturday evening, March 2, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

Dr. Richard Bentzinger, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today, March 4.

Memorial contributions to the Jasper County Hospice or to Moose Heart may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are three sons, Robert of Newton, Jonathan of Ankeny and David of Verona, Wis.; two
daughters, Mrs. David (Joan "Jody") Gooch of Newton and Margaret Atwood of Kansas City, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Mrs. Carl (Maxine) Anderson of Newton, Mrs. John (Pat) Fryer of Newton, Mrs. Matthew (Marilyn) Leydens of West Des Moines and Mr. Hugh (Dorothy) Hesson of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband March 15, 1968, a brother and sister.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Skiff Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Women of the Moose, Academy of Friendship, the College of Regents and Star recorder.

Mrs. Lister had been employed as a bookkeeper for Morgan Builders, Home Oil Company and Terrace Inn prior to her retirement.

The daughter of Glenn and Margaret Brown Anderson, she was born June 25, 1909 in Ankeny and was a 1925 graduate of Newton Community High School.

She was married May 10, 1930 in Bethany, Mo. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, March 1985
